Glad I was of assistance when I explained that style system to you Mike and how you could solve your trapped air issues. A little different than what I explained, but will serve the purpose. A true surge system would have a large 1/2" hose plumbed into the suction side of the water pump as well. But you probably do not need to deal with that. As explained, this will require several thermal cycles until all of the air entrained in the system finally separates and increase your cooling system efficiency by up to 25%. This will help eliminate the potential for hot spots due to air rapidly boiling out of the coolant around the cylinders from high heat under boost. This issue was resolved similarly in most modern engine cooling systems with closed loop cooling systems eliminating the coolant expansion into atmospheric conditions which results in air absorption and hence the issue. Yes, as noted by another person, this system came from hydronic heating systems with an expansion tank located high at the highest point in the system.
